Treatment Tips

  1. The patients and conditions which can be treated with Bio-Advanced insoles are almost endless due to its adaptability. As well as heat moulding, grinding and adding additions; this device can also be trimmed with sharp scissors to create variations such as Morton’s extensions, reverse Morton’s and shaft extensions.
  1. Many patients have problems because there is a restriction of movement somewhere in the sagittal plane. This occurs most often at the ankle joint, due to tight Gastrocs and/or Soleus; and in the 1st MPTJ due to a Functional Hallux Limitus. Your assessment will highlight if this is the case and can then be addressed as part of your treatment plan. Calf stretches will help to increase the range of motion at the ankle joint while removing the 1st metatarsal and/or 1st ray cut outs will give more range of motion to the 1st A Distal Hallux Wedge could also be added under the hallux to pre-load the windlass mechanism and facilitate sagittal plane motion. 1. If you are unsure which density device to choose for your patient, try starting with the Supination Resistance Test; this is just a guide but if you have a patient with a high supination resistance and you issue a low-density device, it will bottom out very quickly.
    • Low resistance = Low-density Bio-Advanced
    • High resistance = High-density Bio-Advanced
